The trip went well (12/6-13). Due to weather delay in RIC I had to be routed onto a later flight to Cancun. The flight was virtually empty.
Transfers to Coz were no problem.
Hotel Cozumel looks in very good shape. Workers going non-stop on the beach club and on the dinning room at the hotel. Dive Paradise gear lockers look like they will be ready soon. There were few divers and most of the time only one boat leaving the dock. One day there was only four of us and we were upgraded to the fast boat and I got four dives in that day. DP did not charge me extra for that. DP was also beginning to restock its shelves with dive necessities. Considering what they have been through, the staff at Hotel Coz and DP were great.
The reefs are different. There is a line that looks like a high-water mark where the sand used to be. One site in particular, Villablanca, looks like it was completely cleaned out of sponges and corals. The good news is that the big animals have come in. I have never seen so may turtles, sharks and eagle rays as I did throughout this trip.
I will try to refer more divers your way. I think what Coz needs now is more visitors.
