Yongala Wreck, Townsville, AustraliaJuly 2005, Yongala Wreck, Townsville & Airlie Beach, QLD, Australia
Fun & Wreck Dives
Dive Center: Adrenalin Dive or Tropical Diving, Townsville or Airlie Beach, QLD, Australia
Website: http://www.adrenalindive.com.au/ or http://www.tropicaldiving.com.au/
Dive Sites: SS Yongala Wreck (Australia´s most famous wreck), Hook Island

Here you can see almost everything in one outstanding dive. Turtles, sharks, sea snakes, troopers and corals of course, all are resident in or around the wreck. Unfortunately there can be a strong current and its quite deep (25 - 35 meters).
Its a daytrip (2 dives) - take a tour operator with a toilet and a sundeck on board.

Due to the weather conditions you may wait for some days to do this dive. Start from Airlie Beach if you like to stay at a famous beach or if you want to see the Whitsundays - start from Townsville if you prefer shopping and night life or if you want to visit Magnetic Island.

I wanted to dive the Yongala when I was there in 2003, and waited in Townville for the weather to improve, but unfortunately it was too windy and the waves were too high for the boat to attach to the moring line. So after 3 days I had to give up and travel north to Cairns.

Gruesse in die Heimat!
