The Future of Artificial Reefing U.S.A. (California included) may end.

To the tens of thousands of DiveBuddy Divers:

The organizational health of Ships to Reefs International, and California Ships to Reefs (CSTR) is being attacked by bureaucrat forces in Washington DC. In 2012 "Plans to make the USS Kawishiwi the next artificial reef in California
ended when the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) withdrew the ship
from the list of vessels considered suitable for reefing."

The Kawishiwi is a 655’ Naval Fleet Oiler and has earned eight campaign stars for Vietnam War service. She’s been laid up in Suisun Bay, Benecia, CA since 1994 costing taxpayers hundreds of thousands for maintenence. Now headed for scrap.

An enormous amount of work by CSTR and it’s divers were lost with that decision. We Divers lost a dive site, a nice one. Lives, lives lost and careers were spent on Kawishiwi mission. Some of it’s Vietnam Veterans still honorably live after protecting "our freedom and liberty to dive where and when we want in the U.S.A."

If your signature(s) on a CSTR petition could reverse the MARAD/Naval Laws to help CSTR in obtaining decommissioned military vessels for reefing for us to dive on. If your signature could honor those that served on these tools of peace keeping war vessels, by having them reefed for more than 100 years of historic wreck diving, community economic growth...(instead of being sent to a 1 year termination of being scrapped for quick temporary jobs?)

[Choose #1] Where can we read more about the bill and reasons it is being pushed vs. reasons we should go against it?

[Choose #1] We need to keep pressure on so all that effort isn’t wasted. I told the NRDC, with whom I often agree, that they got this terribly wrong.

[Choose #1] I signed the petition. It would be nice to also see programs that convert used suitable rigs to ocean platforms for tourism, research and exploration.
