I need your help: how to make dive site section better...

I’d like to make it easier for you to add/modify information in the dive site section on DiveBuddy.com. Can you give me ideas on what you’d like to have that would make it easier for you to contribute comments, photos and other great information about the dive sites you visit regularly?

The dive site section is already very popular on DiveBuddy.com and I want to make it better if I can. I’d love for all members to be able to easily submit up-to-date comments and photos when they visit a dive site. This will make it a much more comprehensive resource for other divers that are interested in diving there in the future.

Thank you,

Greg

Just a thought, what about being able to post/modify an underwater dive map of the dive site so divers can know the topography and any key points to that dive site?

Off the top of my head: some sort of way to consolidate sites, there’s a lot of duplicates with different pieces of information in both it’d be great if we could point them out to be consolidated to one site.

It’s funny you mentioned this. I created a tool for admins and moderators to use that will do just this. If you notice duplicates, let me know and I’ll merge them. I didn’t want to open this feature up to everyone, because it ends up deleting one dive site and merging it’s data with another.

Greg, do you ever stop thinking of ways to improve this already great site?

How about linking to member photos taken at that site?

just a suggestion - maybe list/link the boats/dive shops that organize dives to each site. I am sure some of the charters will like or might even pay for the opportunity to advertise their dive trips. A lot of the charters have very useful and detailed dive site information - if they provide it - their link/website could be associated with the dive site/information.

Has the number of dive sites you have visited been increased? I stopped marking sites I have dove because it stopped showing the older ones on my map.

Alright will do. How about setting up some sort of badge system like foursquare does? Make it a game and competition to go to dive spots, and the rewards are different badges posted on your profile. Yeah obviously someone can lie about where they’ve been (I’m sure some people do already), but I like to imagine everyone on this site has a divine level of integrity.

Wise choice.. plus im sure if it was open to the public,, we’d have more problems on our hands and less dive sites!

Uhhh, that’s been there for a while now. Go to a dive site and you’ll see a link that says "Whos Been Here" :)

Still learning the features so far I like the way it is. I would like to see ways to view more information about locations and Mabel even direct links to dive buddies in the area to sites or ways to look at upcoming events for locations from buddies without going to the forum page and searching. Something like a calendar would be cool. PS vortex spring is a double.... Thanks Greg!

I’ll second this one, Greg. It’s fairly simply to add inland dive sites to the map, but for offshore locations, I’ve had some difficulty adding the GPS coordinates correctly so that the site is located in the correct spot on the map.

Overall, I love the site and will keep adding dive sites as I dive them!

If you save the map as a .jpg you can post it to that dive site so others can view it along with pictures taken at the site.

WebServices for searching and updating dive sites.

That would allow ’partner’ integration with desktop/mobile applications.

Currently I use DB to find the site I have just been to, and then I update MacDive [www.mac-dive.com] with that info (I also add anything on DB that might be missing)

Hello Greg would it be a good idea to have a way to save messages that a person would want to save...also would you mind if i had a divebuddy banner made..it would be the same as buddy member (jimran) white with red letters 3ft wide 8 ft long to tie to my canopy when we go to dutch springs for the weekends??

Thanks Kenney
