I am a NAUI-certified SCUBA instructor in Bloomsburg, PA. At Bloomsburg University I am advisor to the SCUBA Club and teach SCUBA courses along with my regular teaching duties.
I own an old but reliable 18-foot runabout with a 145hp I/O engine. I enjoy going to the Finger Lakes in NY, but lately I have been doing a lot of diving at Harveys Lake, and would be very interested in exploring other regional sites.

I have a ticket for the exhibitions at Beneath the Sea for Saturday, 28 March that I cannot use. Anyone who would like to have it, please let me know where to send it. No cost.

Harvey’s Lake is close to where I live. How is the diving there?

I dive at Harvey’s all the time. It’s about an hour from my house. There is no shore access, but I have a boat. The vis is not good, only about 10 feet or so. But you get used to it. The good thing about Harveys is all the junk. You never know what you might find. I have fishing gear, old bottles, anchors, tools and other stuff.

Looking for dive buddies in the region of East-Central Pennsylvania.

Let me know if you want to go diving at Harveys some time. Maybe this weekend? I have lots of extra gear and my own air compressor, so let me know if you need anything.

That sounds cool. Sure, I’d like to go diving there with you some time. Let me check my schedule to see if this weekend is possible. Thanks for the gear offer. I haven’t purchased my own yet, so I need a regulator, medium BCD, weights, tank, and fins. However, I can rent the equipment from my instructor’s shop if you don’t have any of that.

OK! I run the scuba program at Bloomsburg University and have a kind of personal dive shop with enough gear to outfit a whole class. So I can bring you everything, no charge. By the way, I also am a TUSA dealer and can sell gear at a discount.

Fantastic! I’m free this weekend, so let me know what day/times work best for you. By the way, what thickness of wetsuit do you recommend for diving there?

Hi Joe. Yesterday I smashed the driver-side rearview mirror of my car, which makes it unsafe for me to tow my boat up to the lake. The replacement is coming on Monday, but Harveys is out for this weekend. There is another option, if you want to try it. You might have to drive a little. Tuscarora State Park and Locust Lake State Park allow diving. I have never dived these lakes, but I did go down and talk with the rangers. If you want to try it, let me know. And definitely 7mm suits are the minimum for all the lakes around here. If you want to try out the state parks, send me your height, weight and shoe size so that I can bring a suit that fits.

Oh, man, sorry to hear about your car. Sure, I’m willing to try those lakes if you are. I’m 5’7", 170 lbs, with a 40" chest and shoe size 10. Thanks again for letting me borrow the gear.
