DiveBuddy.com Member Trips for 2007 (I need your help)

I want to arrange a trip for DiveBuddy.com members. Here`s what I`d like to do, your input and help is appreciated:

Mini trips: Over the summer, I`d like to arrange a day gathering in California (???), Texas (The Blue Lagoon), Florida (Devils Den), Pennsylvania (Dutch Springs) and South Africa (???). I live in Texas so I can manage that one. Would anyone like to volunteer to organize the gatherings in CA, FL, PA or South Africa? Can you provide suggestions on a good dive site in CA and South Africa that doesn`t require a boat or an overnight stay?

Main trip: I want to organize a trip to Mexico or the Bahamas in July 2007. Both of those locations are within a short distance to most of our members. Can you provide suggestions on a good dive resort?

Please reply to this post as soon as possible with your suggestions.

Thank you!
Greg Davis
P.S. Next year, we`ll change the destinations so we can all experience new places.

I am sure there will be better advice from those that currently live in Cali, but San Diego has some great shore diving. I lived there for 6 years when I was in the Navy. It seems though that most of the members are from central Cali, so maybe up by Monteray Bay might be more convienient. I would be willing to do something in the Ohio-Michigan area if members can`t get down to Florida for the day dive. As for the trip in July, just pick a place! They will come!

For your main trip may I recommend Old Providence? It is in the Western Caribbean. Although maybe a bit more expensive to get there, the accommodations are much cheaper than the larger resort destinations. So it all equals out as far as price and the diving is equivalent to some of the best know destinations. With the worlds 3rd largest reef with over 100 square miles you can almost never run out of dive sites. I have a trip scheduled for Memorial Day weekend with prices [ at ] $99/night. I could probable get the same rate if there was enough participation.

I`m definitely on for the TX trip when it comes around. Seeing as I live in TX, I won`t be much help for any of the other locations...

I normally ocean dive every weekend, but I might be able to be convinced to drive to the springs to help out with a group. How many people? Locals or out of state?

Devil`s Den is a fun dive, good swim throughs I`ll be there. And, if any Miami/Ft.Lauderdale divers want to carpool, let me know. I`ve got room for 5 + cargo. When do you think it will be? I`ll be in Cozumel June 21-28. Also, Blue Grotto is less than 1 mile from Devil`s Den and is a nice OW cavern experience. John

I would be able to do Lake Rawlings or the N.C. wreck dives and maybe make it atleast a two day thing. That way if you couldn`t make it one day you could make the other. Glad to help if I can.

Greg you would have to specify what type of temperatures you want to dive in as well as the depths that you are looking at. South Africa diving varies dramatically from the north eastern diving in Sodwana (Boat diving 20` boats) down to Cape Town (mostly shore entries) The west coast temperatures are cold relative to our eastern and southern shores. Some sites are impractical to not sleep over, even though it could be done.
