Let me know what you think about the following map search I just added:

http://www.divebuddy.com/search_map.aspx

Click anywhere on the map and it will zoom in and show the members within a 100 mile radius that have added a map location to their profile.

Can you think of any other features I should consider using integrated maps and the content with have on our site?

Looks like it works good Greg, but how about being able to choose how far a radius to search? Jeff

Works pretty well. Only two annoying things to report. 1. When you click on a person to see their photo, the screen scrolls up so your target is now at the bottom of the view. So I had to keep going back and to the arrow and re-center the screen. No biggie. And it didn’t always do it. 2. When you click once you see the profile photo. When you click on that photo it takes you to the actual member profile. When you click (back) arrow to back to your map, it has reset back to the world map and you need to re-target your area. Again, no biggie. Just reporting what I noticed. To be honest, I prefer to search through the regular search engine so I can filter the type of diver and miles from me.

Greg, I might be doing something wrong; however, I can’t find any of the members who are on my buddy list in the Killeen, TX area. Is there an option in our profiles for "don’t display" my profile? If so this might be the issue. I noticed the larger areas like Austin and Dallas have a few members available. Thanks.

Greg, I tested the map search, and I liked it. It would be nice to choose the radius of search, insted of having it fixed to 100 miles, however no biggie. Will you add a button to this map search under the regular http://www.divebuddy.com/search.aspx ? It would be nice if more people had their location added to the map. Maybe bonus points could be awarded to people who have a public map location, and a public profile? Just thinking.

The database of member locations is updated every couple hours (so I don’t make multiple round trips to our database, this makes things faster). so it takes a bit to update your location on this map once you change it in your profile. Members will only show up on the map if they have added their location to their profile...so it doesn’t show as many members as the regular search would.

Hi Greg, This is a nifty tool. My only suggestion would be to have the ability to return to where you were on the map after viewing someone’s profile. Currently, the back browser button defaults back to the world map and you have to start over to get back to the area you were viewing. Otherwise, awesome. Thanks for creating it. -Marti

Greg, I clicked on Pewaukee, Wisconsin...and someone named "Laughing Trisha" came up. Checked her out and she should be placed in Mass! ??

The map loaded just fine but there were no dive buddies shown anywhere that I could find at least in western Oregon. I went to my profile to set up my map location in My Profile but the only option available to me that was close to accurate was "United States". I guess my fourth grade teascher was correct, I can’t follow directions. Also the version of Goggle Mpas you are using has old aerial fotos on it. I live in a new house that shows on more recent versions of Goggle Maps/Goggle Earth but on the older versions, like this one, it is just an empty lot. No big deal though, I really don’t want my exact location available to the entire world. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
