Scuba travel deals newsletter (your opinion)

We have a nice network of divers and dive retailers on DiveBuddy.com. Should I create a monthly scuba travel deals newsletter that is sent to paying members of DiveBuddy.com? Dive centers, travel agents or resorts that have last minute deals or cancellations can contact me to include their offer in the newsletter. What do you think? Should I make this newsletter available to all? Would it be worth doing just for scuba travel OR are there enough generic last minute travel sites/newsletters out there? Your opinion is appreciated.

Thanks, Greg.

From TheyAreFlippers:

I would say make it to Members. Victoria

I’m inclined to agree with Victoria here.

I would have to agree as well. Members only should get the great benefits like this.

Maybe that’ll get me off my lazy [ at ] ss and actually sign up for the membership option. :-D

The idea of a news letter is GREAT! Especially if it has info on deals and such. But, just like the others who have replied to this so far, I agree, it should be a perk for those who are paying members.

I like the idea,

but I would rather not get one more newsletter.

Would it be possible to have a "Members only" section here and then post the newsletter there?

Greg - There are dozens of competent tour organizers who plan excellent dive trips, and several are members of DiveBuddy.com. The best don’t need any marketing support because their trips are booked up before they are even finalized. These are the ones worth reporting, because they show where the real value is - where demand exceeds supply.

We get marketing e-mails from plenty of operators. Most are grossly overpriced and loaded with friends of the sponsors getting a free ride. I see no reason to help these groups (standard advertising package). A couple a month are really interesting - mostly people looking to make a breakpoint on a villa or fill a private plane. These trips are worth passing on to DiveBuddy.com members.

Using the model of the "Hamptons Share," where nobody gets a free ride, ambitious DiveBuddy.com members willing to post a prospectus should get our support. I’d be happy to join a group that will take down a 10-person villa in Bonaire for a week in January using the introductory Delta $239 rate. If it was restricted to DiveBuddy.com members, I might even volunteer to put the trip together myself.

Best regards -
