Might be some expanded salt water diving along the Texas coast in the future.

"In the event the ship reef project becomes technically infeasible (for example, if an appropriate ship cannot be acquired with available funding), an artificial reef site off Corpus Christi will be expanded."

Unless they put the ship reef pretty far out, it’s not going to have much visibility for divers. They are looking at these projects for marine life improvement and not as dive sites. The bottom layer in the Gulf, especially anywhere between shore and 15 miles out, is mostly covered in silt due to the Gulf currents and all the muddy rivers that lead to the Gulf. If a ship reef is placed off Texas for the purpose of recreational scuba diving, it might need to be suspended 30 feet off the bottom so we can see the darn thing.

It’s not brown water at the Flower Gardens but that’s a long boat ride :(

The further down the coast towards Mexico, the closer blue water comes to shore. And the bottom topography is more steep, if you can call it that at all.
