Blue Springs State Park - Orange City FL

Loading...
Large pool at spring head, 3-10 ft deep. Large opening to spring fissure at 15 ft with large fallen tree over opening. Strong outflow can make descent difficult. Open cavern to about 65 ft. Warning sign at 55 ft. Light fades out at 90 ft. Keeps going from there as a cave dive. Good facilities, $5.00 to dive, $5.00 per car.

Florida’s Blue Spring State Park. Nice parking lot to set up your gear, then a 5 minute walk along a hammock plank trail down into the spring, where you’ll need to walk just a little bit further in the knee-deep spring to the spring entrance. Easy dive to 60 feet where the dive becomes a cavern dive. Cavern certification is required to go beyond this point, or to carry lights at all during the dive. A large warning sign indicates where you should stop your dive. When you’re done with your dive, inflate your BC and float down the river back to a swimming dock, watching carefully for turtles, fish and other typical florida critters. It’s an easy walk back to the car. I see dozens of fellow scuba divers at this site almost every time I go on the weekends.

It’ll cost you the typical florida state park entrance fee, or use a state park pass if you have one. You’ll need to sign in at the front gate, and you must have a dive buddy to dive at this site. They will check your certification cards and possibly your dive log.

Google maps will get you to this site using the address provided without any issues.

Special Equipment Note: The flow from the spring can be strong and may catch you by surprise. You may want to dive a couple of pounds heavy here, so you aren’t fighting the upwell current as much and it’s easier to get to depth. (Also, it’s fun to "surf" on the upwell current between ledges while you’re down there...)
