Description: The Army Corp of Engineers back in the 50’s dug a trench through the outer reef to bury an outfall pipe that carries treated water to be discharged off shore in 100’. These are the only ledges in Broward county that run east and west. Inside the trench are sand bags that create a dam that were to keep the pipe from rising during storm events. Also at the dam there are some artificial structures, Very nice broken reef with cliffs that provide good cover for marine life. The scenery is excellent. Coral, basket sponges, whips, and fans are common. Outside ledge has good lobster crevices when bugs are deep. Occasionally large grouper are seen along the outside edges.

Navigation: Start out in either the north or south of the trench (depending on the current) and then drift into the trench and head east or west. This is the best scenic route. A favorite during lobster season
