There are only 2 deep water passages up at this end of the lagoon to allow for the free flowing of tides in and out of the lagoon. Lumalihe is one of them. As you might imagine, that engenders some occasionally wild currents. But it is also a gathering place for huge schools of fish- surgeons, barracudas, snappers, and emperors hang out at the corner store awaiting the food delivery services. Sharks and mobula and eagle rays are frequently seen cruising the currents. Around the point we arrive at a major yellow-lined triggerfish nesting area. Unlike their cousins, the Titans, these will not attack divers, although the vigorously drive off other predators. If one can turn their attention from the blue, they are treated to a host of 3 species of dart fish, hard coral gardens and several species of anemone fish
