Perched at the top of a volcanic submarine mountain, the 18-island archipelago lies 224 miles from mainland Brazil, and that isolation translates directly to many pristine dive sites. Pedras Secas in the Mar de Fora, or the Outer Sea, is a warren of tunnels and canyons, featuring a rocky bottom covered with sea life. Rock formations rise to the surface, constantly punished by the undulations of the persistent waves.
