Something Special aka Pali Grandi - Netherlands Antilles

Loading...
If you are doing this as a shore dive, Located on the South side of the jetty leading into Plaza Resort harbor. Parking area available, but it’s a 150’+ hike to the beach.

Marked site BNMP #32
While this site is pretty much devoid of coral near the marina entrance, it does have a lot of fish. This is the place to study what coral rubble, bottles, wheels and fish have for each other. The sandy bottom is a great place to see rays. Night divers favor this spot for its ease of entry. There are more unique sightings of fish here than at any other site, mainly because the marina attracts so many fish. Garden eels can be found at 55 feet. Depth 20-80 feet (6-25) meters).

Something Special

Fishermen started the nickname: At this site just outside the Kralendijk harbor, they would compare catches while swilling a cheap brand of rum called Something Special. Once divers took to these waters, the name stuck — but not because of the rum. Out of Bonaire’s 89 named sites, this reef is among the top spots for finding frogfish — both in record numbers and rarely seen colors. Though the site is best reached by boat, shore divers will swim over sand and rubble piles, home to garden eels and a variety of macro life. Something Special also consistently delivers squid, turtles and eagle rays. With so much variety, this is just the sort of dive you’ll want to recount at happy hour — do yourself a favor and skip the low-grade rum. — BM
