I lived in the Portland area for 17 years. tell your buddy that in the late summer and early fall you can also dive near the mouth of the Clackamas river and parts of the Willamette river near Oregon City. They water is pretty clear at the bottom. The Clackamas is mostly (70%) clear in the fall before the rains start again. At High Rocks park (1/4 mile from moth of Clackamas ) there are 50’ depts. that you can see to the surface fish swimming over you up and down stream.. Just another Idea for eshorvath. Netearts Bay is used a lot by local divers as well as Timothy Lake on Mt Hood. (Altitude though) I was able to dive all of those spots with 7 mil and 3 mil hood vest no problems. I know that even as I post this you are now in HI but I am slow..... I am coming out there this summer for some vacation time. Maybe we can get some dive time. Good luck.

Where do you dive around here? I’m not used to the cold dives though. Will take getting used to.

well, there is the oregon coast where conditions can be ok to trecherous. i dove in newport at the south jetty sunday and it was the most dangerous conditions ive ever been in. good learning experience. so i think there are a few lakes in the cascades you can dive in but not a lot to look at. ive heard clear lake is nice. i usually head up to the puget sound or hood canal area in washington. if you do dive locally in the high elevation you will have to take into account the altitude and factor it in when you dive. and you will definately need a dry suit. i dont know anyone who uses a wetsuit. it is just too cold. it is too bad you are so far from diving. i am currently camping and exploring the fossil beds here outside of dayville. beautiful but i dont like being so far from the ocean for diving. i recoment the area to check out if you are not too far. the painted hills national monument is also stunning. well good luck and i hope this helps a little.

I have moved to Central Oregon from Florida. Would love a dive buddy. Missing the water. Any ideas/plans on places to do?
