Yes, I did file a report, and spoke to him directly about his actions, but of course, there is always an excuse. The point is, a thief is a thief, and now that he has figured out a way to steal the images rather than pay, I seriously doubt that he deleted his copy from his own computer. :-(

I am not sure why you are comparing all recreational divers to someone that infringes on a copyright. That is not a fair assessment. If you are selling photos, I would recommend that you put watermarks all over them until someone does pay...then release the full image without watermarks. Also, if you upload anything to the internet...you should not expect to keep people from copying it. Sorry for the problems you experienced. If there is anything I can do, please let me know.

Facebook should remove the copyrighted material. There is a form you fill out with them which asks for proof that the property is yours...then they remove it.

Something I do, besides putting a single watermark on my posted images is to make them low resolution - and 72dpi so that a good print cannot be made. As long as someone leaves my watermark in place, which is either at the very top or very bottom of the image, I don’t care if they use it for non-commercial purposes online - it’s free advertising for me.

Bummer. We need a word for divers that most definitely aren’t your buddy that’s better than "asshole" or "jerk". Something that means you’ll never have anything to do with them anymore.
