Join us for a trip to West Palm Beach, May 17-20, 2012, to experience the abundance of sea turtles and learn about sea turtles from Mr. Larry Wood, founder of the Florida Hawksbill Project at the Palm Beach Zoo. The reefs of Palm Beach County are well-known for having lots of sea turtles, especially hawksbills, and SCUBA divers enjoy encounters with them on nearly every dive.

By studying the hawksbills of Florida, the Palm Beach Zoo is contributing to the ongoing effort to recover populations of this critically endangered species. Large-scale, multi-national efforts are underway to stimulate hawksbill conservation, in large part due to their close association with coral reefs. Because they don’t nest with any regularity in Florida, those we encounter here have very likely come from a variety of distant locations in the Caribbean. As a result, the hawksbills being studied in Palm Beach represent a ‘melting pot’ of regional populations, and can provide valuable insight to the biology and conservation of this species.

On this trip, we will learn about the turtles of Palm Beach with Mr. Wood, and support turtle research and conservation.

I just sent an email to all FL divers on DiveBuddy (over 1200 divers) about this offer. Hopefully you get it sold. I’m sorry for the family emergency.

Would love to take advantage but sadly cannot due to last minute wedding planning.

For anyone that is interested, I have first hand experience working with Larry Wood and his turtle efforts - We rescued a Hawksbill with his help on my birthday last year. Proud to say the turtle survived and was released after 6 months of treatment & rehab at Loggerhead.

You will not be disappointed to be among his crowd.

Hi Bob! Any luck that you can take this opportunity to tag turtles? The leader Dave Bone, from the dive shop, is already there and we would need you to have paperwork in hand (that’s easy). The group are arriving today and activities start tomorrow. Keep me posted. Thanks!!
