Does anyone know the best time of the year to dive at Balmorhea State Park? Hopefully I can find someone to be my dive buddy for the trip.

Hello! Greg (owner of DiveBuddy) and our family went late July, early August and it was amazing. Greg went diving while the kids and I snorkled. Maybe someone who lives a bit closer or has been more often will have a better answer but our experience that time of year was great. Take pictures if you go and post them on Divebuddy!

I’ve been there during the colder months. the water is not bad stays around 72-75 degrees. My daughter is going this weekend, I’ll find out how they liked it in the warmer months.


I wanted to go but they picked a time when I just couldn’t get away. I’ll be going soon.

Water stays around the same temp all year since it’s spring fed. You can feel and see the water gushing out of the ground at the point where the spring starts. The surrounding hills were really nice.

Thats great. I’m not sure when is the best time to go....I’m wondering if its too hot to go to that part of Texas in July or August.

I didn’t realize that the nearest city to fly into is Midland or El Paso, from there I am going to have to rent a car and then drive for the last leg. I’m seriously having to reconsider considering I was thinking it would just be a weekend trip.


BTW, we’re diving at Clear Springs in Terrell this weekend if you want to join us.

My wife and I will be there in September on the 7th and 8th. We will be driving out from Houston and then heading back to meet a Divebuddy at the Frio River for the 11th and 12th.

I will be at Balmorhea on Sunday June 27, 2010. I will be driving with my family from El Paso to the park. I do not have a dive partner for this day. I will go and hang out and try to buddy up with anyone willing. We will be in El Paso for the weekend visiting family. I dont make this trip often and I thought that it would be a good chance to get the dive in.
