I have a grandson living in San Antonio that I would like to get certified to dive with me. He has done a couple of exploration dives with shop up in Iowa where I live. I am looking for recommendations for dive shops in San Antonio.

Also I may be visiting him in August and would like to get in some diving. What are conditions like at South Padre and fresh water sites that time of year. Any recommendations about dive shops for South Padre. I have looked online at dive sites in Texas but looking for some input from those of you who have dove the sites. I would appreciate any information that you can share.

Well I would recomend Duggan Diving. I did research before I got certified and found that Art ( assisant manager) responded quikly and professionally. If you take your O/W (it’s all inclusive wetsuit, fins, mask, snorkel,BCD with regs, weights, booties, and cover the park fees for open water). No upfront purchasing needed like others.Aswell other place charge for wetsuit rental, park fees, and air(they dont tell you untill the time comes). The down side to Duggans is the lenght of the class Mon-Thur 6-9pm for 2 weeks then a Sat and Sun dive from 8am-12pm. Mon and Wen class, Tue and Thur pool ( ft sam). I think they have a new schedule for time constraints aswell though too. Another upside is once you take a class you get discounts and when you put a BCD and regs on layaway, your rental fee for a BCD w/ Regs goes towards your layaway of BCD. I only use Duggans 1) atmosphere and friendliness 2) location is perfect for me. I have only done fresh water diving in TX mostly in Canyon Lake. The average Viz is poor best i’ve seen is 20ft, temp is high 70’s. I have also done drift diving in the comal which is nice too. Look at my pic’s they are from both the forementioned areas. Good luck and safe diving!

Duggan Diving is a great shop. Also, each year when New Braunfels has it’s river clean up, Duggan Diving is generous enough to provide tanks to all of our DiveBuddy divers. Check them out since they’re not far from you. www.duggandiving.com or 210-658-7495.
