I generally dive the Caribbean but have an ice capable Apex regulator. I don’t know about your regulator but check with the mfg and then also, and more importantly, your Michigan dive shop. I would think that your current regulator would be fine for the "normal" Michigan dive season but for an ice dive, make sure it is checked and serviced for this dive type as some lubricants used may not be appropriate for the temps that you would encounter.

Check this site for weather conditions including surface water temp (select "Marine"). Currently the surface temp in the lakes looks to be around 65 F. NOAA may have some at depth data ...

Lake Michigan temps reach mid to upper 70’s during the summer, but the lake can turn over night and surface temps can be down to the 50’s the next day. Lake Superior temps only make it to the upper 50’s for surface temps at its warmest.

Morning,

The posts are correct, Michigan temperatures change quickly and drastically. I was diving Otter Lake yesterday and in about 28’ of water the temp was about 50 degrees. Yet the air temp on surface was almost 80. My opinion is to obtain (if you dont have) these certifications for Michigan-

1. Drysuit- well worth it!

2. Limited Viz

3. Deep Diving (Great Lakes have a lot to offer)

4. Wreck diving

This is just my opinion, but anyone that lives around here would agree I think. Where are you moving to?
