On Nov. 26, 1922, the Katie Eccles left Oswego, New York with 300 tons of hard coal. She soon lost her rudder, but made it to Timber Island before dropping anchor. The crew rowed to the island that night, but the anchor chain cut through the ship`s planks, and she foundered in deep water.
