Kayakers Cove - near Seward AK

Loading...
Shore dive off beach at lodge & cabins. Shallow no alot to see good for skills. Lot’s of kelp big rock about 100 yards out w/ fish around vis. varies was 4 to 6 ft.. Gets deeper the father you go out. No current can see big tides. Kayaker’s Cove is terrific. You need a boat to get out to it, which is both a plus and a minus. Once there, you stay in one of the rental cabins, which range from small to large, and from bare bones to luxurious. The diving within the cove is a little dull, although there is at least one really fun swim-through. The best thing about it, though, is that it is just a few minutes by boat from Kayaker’s to some of the best diving in the area (including a really fun deep cavern dive). It is right across from the Fox Island spit, where that wreck is hiding (not very well!). Kayakers’ Cove is a beautiful spot, and the diving in June should be great. Shore dives from the cove are okay, but the best diving is a short boat ride away at spots like Mary’s Rock, Shark Tooth, the Fox Island wreck, Barwell Island, and other nearby locations. June is a bit early to see a lot of fish; the rock fish and ling cod come in a bit later in the summer. But the "small critters" are there in force, and the viz is actually a bit better early in the summer when the water is still on the cool side.
