30m maximum depth Maximum depth: 25-30m along the sloping wall.
Weak-to-average current. The open waters of the Caribbean Sea provide good-to-excellent visibility.
Paamul Deep is very similar to both Punta Venado and Islote, but being more exposed makes it more affected by surge.
It also lies very close to the cantil and it is also a reef where coral and sponges predominate over fish life.
Inhabited by many and colorful reef fishes including queen angelfish and a great number of blue chromis, it is often visited by bigger pelagics such as the powerful amberjack.
Exits can be quite demanding due to wave action and we tend to visit this reef as part of special tours that often include lunch at Kalu’s, the fine restaurant at Paamul beach.
