HMCS Yukon is a boat accessible salt water dive site, located in San Diego, CA. This dive site has an average rating of 3.71 out of 5 from 42 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 91-100ft/28-30m. The average visibility is 31-35ft/9-11m.

The Yukon is the latest contribution to San Diego’s Wreck Alley. A t 366’ feet in length, it is one of California’s largest wrecks accessible by divers. As the newest wreck, it is also the most intact wreck divers can visit.
Through the efforts of the San Diego Oceans Foundation, the Yukon was towed down to San Diego, gutted and cleaned. On Thursday, July 13th, she was towed out and moored off Mission Bay in preparation for sinking. Explosives were placed forward and aft to sink her. The plan was to blow holes in both sides of the bow below the waterline, then blow holes in the stern. This systematic opening of the hull allowed water to fill both the port and starboard sides simultaneously, allowing the ship to settle upright. Unfortunately, the plan was never executed. That night swells rocked the ship, allowing water to enter the holes cut low to the waterline and shortly after midnight, her bow headed for the bottom. Rolling over on her port side, the stern stuck up in the air and it too sank to the bottom a hundred feet below.

Fantastic wreck dive! If you’re AOW+ and in San Diego, it’s a must dive. Will be going back many times.

Aborted dive after descending onto the wreck due to strong surge and very limited visibility ; Used Waterhorse Charters

I dove here off the Humboldt. Very interesting wreck. It took two dives to explore the outside of the ship. I did not penetrate the wreck except for a swim through of the "dolphin" cutouts in the bow. Dive is best done on nitrox.

I did 2 dives here on the Marissa dive boat. Shallowest part is about 75’. Deepest is 100’. Lots of fish and a cormorant freaked me out at 74’! I had no idea they dove so deep. Marissa has onboard air, so no need to lug multiple tanks.

Dove this wreck on 11/29/14 with Marissa dive charters. Single dive, approx 20 feet of viz, 62 degree water. Need more dives on this, with it laying on its port side,I takes some getting used to figuring out what to look at. Lots of marine life on and around it, however, large school of sardines, lots of soft corals growing on it, cool dive! Will be returning!

Very large wreck, over 300’. There are 3-4 mooring lines, we tied up to the one between the pilot house and forward turret. This is the area we focused on since we only had a single AL 80cf bottle. This dive is best suited for twins or rebreathers to maximize your time on the wreck, and you will need multiple dives to explore both the inside and outside. She lays on her port side, which has reduced the number of access points to the interior and it can be disorienting if you aren’t experienced with wreck penetration. Great dive, and with only a 30 minute boat ride to the site you can’t beat it.

Maybe we just had a bad day. Weather was great! But the conditions were terrible. 6 foot swells, lots of deep current, vis at the wreck and below 60 feet as 5 to 10 feet at best.

Excellent wreck to visit and train on. Lots of beautiful life covering it. Visibility can sometimes be a challenge.
