Last night we attended a seminar in Raleigh at the museum about the Monitor Santuary. It was very educational to all that attended (40+).It became hostile for a while divers angry with the government stepping in to perserve national history, applying restrictions on divers. Well the restrictions are ample to all who venture underwater, observe don’t destroy or steal from the wrecks. There’s more to it than that but that was the main complaint that there were restrictions and afraid NOAA will attach other wrecks. The Monitor lies in 240 ft. of water so unless you are tri-mix certified you’ll never see it anyways, but there needs to be awareness and appreciation for what lies under the water for all divers, Be it reefs, fish, wrecks, etc. So my thought is if you don’t want NOAA applying restrictions than as divers we need to do our part to perserve all the waters for the future and all our children to come. Set up groups to set bouys, signs of info and instructions of dive sight of interest to you, Rope off area and set parimaters for the preservation of the sight of interest and as divers if you see someone destroying our history than step up to bat and say something to the divers on the surface. So what do you think about divers doing there part in preservation? Blogs are so very welcome. Affiliates of Seaductions Dive Center SSI
