I’ll be at these 3 locations in January and was wondering everyone’s opinion for the best ~easy~new diver( well I’ve been certified for 3 years but havent dove in a while) ~ Dive. I was thinking about Grand Cayman...maybe Cozumel. What is the best? What can I not miss? How is stingray City? How are the Wall dives in Cayman? Thanks =)

I’m surprised you are asking so many questions about Cayman Islands since your profile mentions how proud you are of being a "Cayman Island Dive Specialist".

I thought Grand Cayman’s wall dives were great, we maxed at 85’ but you can go deeper. Lots of small critters to look at including cleaner shrimp, conger eels and octopi in the wall. If you want to go shallower there are good reefs as well. Snorkel sting ray city to save money, it doesn’t matter if you dive it same thing either way. Cozumel had great visibility but I wass on drift dives so you couldn’t spend a lot of time looking at the smaller critters. I don’t know if there are any good spots that aren’t drifts probably are though. Hope this helps.

Sting Ray city is a blast. We went with a charter tour through a cruise (sorry, don’t remember the name) and they gave us squid to feed the rays. It was really cool seeing so many rays in one place and being able to feed and touch them. The first time I fed one my fingers got sucked into the ray’s mouth and it sucked off my nail polish. My husband got a hickey from one. Our dive operator took us to a spot where an eel they named ’Psycho’ hung out. The eel was really old and had cataracts. The dive master kept the eels mouth occupied with the squid bucket while we all got to handle the eel. It was a really neat low key dive.

Cozumel was nice too. We did the swim through and a nice drift dive. The crew on the dive boat was really great, they took care of everything. We never had to touch our gear.

Both places gave divers the opportunity to dive with the dive master so if you are a beginner diver that is the best way to go.

Are you going on a cruise? If so, you can always book through the cruise ship.

Have a blast!

I am also a "new" diver. Dove in Grand Cayman and Cozumel, both trips booked as cruiseship excursions in 2005. Enjoyed the drift dive in Cozumel so much that I talked my brother and Dad into flying down 8/25 - 9/1, 2007. The current on the drift dive in Cozumel was not as strong as I was led to believe, the walls are amazing and the visibility was fantastic. Plus, the dive operators will take very good care of you. Have fun!
