Dive Site Suggestions Needed for Charleston, SC

Hi friends!

I am coming down to Charleston, SC from Chapel Hill, NC for a few days next week and was hoping you all could offer some suggestions for dive spots. I am looking for something inland or beach, in approximately 30 feet of water or less, that we can do without a charter or host. Something simple and recreational, nothing too strenuous. Also looking for sites further up the coast (up to the SC/NC line) with the same specifications.

Thanks so much for your input!

Sorry - it can not be done in Charleston... Not trying to be funny - unless you want to try the Cooper River - it is maybe 6 inch viz near Charleston/Mt Pleasant or up the river it is tidal dependent and has gators... There is nothing inshore other than sand and you need to go out 15+ miles to get 50 feet or more...

My sister lives there and I scoped it out - you need to dive from a boat... :-)

Which we did and it was fun - but finding 30 feet with viz is going to be hard pressed with out a boat.

What he said...except he forgot to mention that the Cooper River has an abundance of fossils to be found! (Check local permit requirements)

Boat diving is best for ocean diving in the Carolinas.

Well, just got back from 3 days with olympus dive center in morehead nc. Hard to think of anyone doing it better than these folks.
All wrecks but some people doing training there were doing shire dives not far from the shop.

Just a though
