fins. flippers make me think of dolphins.

to quote a wise man "fins to the left, fins to the right" they’re fins but I some times say flipper too - as in "damn flipper foot" when i’ve gotten a lovely blister on my big toe when my fin rubs me.

In class we always refer to them as fins.
Students who insist on calling them flippers are fed small fish and asked to do tricks! Just kidding. I remember back to the Sea Hunt days and I seem to recall them being called flippers...any other old-timers remember that?

Ouch! Old timer?? hahahaha yeah I guess sooooo count me in on that one!! Yes indeed on sea hunt they did call them flippers!! I grow up watching every show without a miss and I have the entire set on DVD now...... and Mike Nelson called them his flippers...... but I still call them fins!! I like the idea about feeding the students small fish...... You know terminology does change..... I remember a few words we used to use as a kid that mean something totally different now..... Gay and thongs come to mind right off!!! :) use both of those in a sentence in a public area and you will get some odd looks!!

I want to thank you all for participating. My friend insits on calling them flippers, while our husbands and I call them fins. She even went so far as to Google them and print them out for her debate. The consensus is they can be called flippers, however, the diving community and many others refer to them as FINS.

Flippers sound cooler, unless you demand to be respected, then you call them Fins.
Like when I go diving w/ buddies I call them flippers, but when I go diving for Cert’s then I call them Fins.
