Ok, heres the deal for the past three weeks my dive team has been training for Ice Rescue and Recovery. We are currently using the Titan LX regs, and tehy are freezing and free flowing badly. So I pose the question is there a reg out there that works for ice diving. Please let me know I could use the help before I put in my `08 budget. Nathan

just finished an ice diving (recreational) cert......we normally dive scubapro 600`s.....without an exception, almost ALL froze up. The dive operation up at Lake George uses Sherwood Blizzards. If you`d like me to put you in touch with him, I can. He was an awesome instructor and runs recoveries, etc. up there.....

Sherwood Blizzards are made for cold water diving. The Poseidon is a very good reg for cold water but you will pay a pretty penny for them and they have lots of parts so will cost you to service as well.

Poseidon all the way! I train a lot of rescue squads and they all choose to go Poseidon as well. In fact I was training 2 weeks ago in sub 30 degree water. My breath was freezing on exhalation and making pinging sounds inside the 2nd stage -- I was even able to get some frozen pellets back into my mouth on inhalation (I had just finished drinking A LOT and my breath was extremely wet)... Not one sign of freeze up or freeflow! I do use environmental kits when training in overhead super cold environments -- but this was a shallow training dive that I didn`t even use the environmental kit on! If I can help you with regulator selection or any other info -- please shoot me a message.... All the best- -- J

Hey Nathan, Never dove a poseidon, but parts kits are costly, and tough to find reps to service them. I use an assortment of Scubapro First and second stages. I use a Mk 17 (environmentally sealed balanced diaphram), and love it (forget if you use AGA`s or other FFM`s, or second stages). I have a G250HP, but would definately look at the new G250 V(intage)with a metal barrel for heat transfer compared to the plastic of the HP. Seperate PM sent on pre and post dive procedures to minimize freeze-ups. All the Best, John

I wood look at sherwood, They do have the blizzard which my NAPD instructor uses north of the artic cycle so I know it works. I have had my brut (do not rmeber which model) in 20 f water and it was fine. If you are doing PSD then the sherwood also has you covered from contamination. it is a dry bleed system so no bad stuff gets in, it is why I bought sherwood for the Sheriff`s Dept Dive team when I ran it. Hope this helps
