Hi Brian, where do you stay in Bonaire? I have been wanting to go but my regular dive group prefers Roatan and I just can’t get them to Bonaire. I would consider a trip with someone who is familiar with the area.

Hello Kimmykat,
This will be my 11th trip to Bonaire. I will be staying @ Happy Holiday Homes. www.happyholidayhomes.com. They are 3 KM from airport south in Belnum. Very clean 1 bedroom apartments. Just an FYIcost is 93.50 per day or 670.00 for week for your own apartment. I have already rented a 4 door truck (no cost to you) and diving is about 135.00 for 6 days air or nitrox. But you can stay just about anywhere and we could meet up for diving (thats what I’ve done with other divers, I drive and pick you up and use the same diver operator).
I rent an apartment, go to the grocery store for breakfast things/light lunch items. Dive starting 8 am, then a second around 11:00 -small snack-then 1 or 2 pm- get cleaned up and head to town for dinner. Night dives when ever.
Brian

Wow....this is tempting. Airline prices seem good that week ($630-670 round trip from EWR)...baggage fees may be a killer though. I might have to send you an e-mail on this one. :-)

Yeah Wil,
I’m also flying United direct from Newarkred eye. I booked for like 620.00, used united cc so 1st bags are free both ways. Think about it. Its a nice time of the year there in May, not as hot as the summer months.

Last time I went was in May as well. The flights I saw were Delta.... What I found was a 6:45 AM flight on the 4th, gets in at 1:55 PM, and coming back it’s 2:59 PM depart and just after midnight landing in Newark.
The United Flight must be booked up, I can’t even find it on their website. The Delta Fees are waived in a similar way, but theirs are for an AmEx that costs $450 a year. Baggage fees aren’t too bad, if I recall correctly, last time I went my gear + clothes were right at the 70 pound limit. Now it looks like up to 50 pounds is $25 for the first, and $40 for the second. Or a 70 pound bag is $50. I think I’d spend the extra $15 for the extra baggage.....
Odds are I could get in and out with a 50 pound bag, do you know if their are laundry facilities on site at HHH? I looked at their site, and they do have a great price for single divers.
If someone wanted to throw you a few dollars towards the pickup, or at least fill it with gas as his share so as not to feel like too much of a barnacle, would that be cool? I say "someone" because I’ve still got to think this one over (just logged into the site for the first time in a while due to an unseasonably warm day).

Just a FYI. United direct from Newark leaves on a Friday night not Saturday

|
|
And, yes HHH has a wash machine that uses token and soap from front office, but air dried on a cloth line

Excellent, found it. Alot of great info, thanks. I’d most likely just pay the bag fees, but I’ve now been able to find that flight. Direct beats layovers any day.
Ohh, I don’t know....air dried in the Caribbean air....I don’t know if I’d be able to go home after that.

Are you or anyone you know still looking for a dive buddy for Bonaire in April or May of 2013? I am open water certified and I am interested mainly in shore diving Bonaire, as I have heard it is the best destination for shore diving. I would be traveling solo and would like to find a dive buddy for anytime during that time period in Bonaire. I have not made any reservations or booked a flight yet. It is kinda late, though I have found that I have some vacation that I must use or lose, so what better way....
