 Pompano Beach December

I am arriving in Pompano Beach FLA Dec 20 looking for a dive buddy that might be interested in a shore dive if there are any good spots in the area. Going to be on my own and have booked to do some diving with Parrot Island Adventures, but would like a good shore dive, especialy before I head out on a boat to get used to the different environment, and to perhaps get another dive or two in without the cost of a boat.


If you are interested in showing a Canadian the ropes in south Florida I would be interestes in hearing from you. As well I can change my diving reservations at this point if someone has better suggestions for diving, or operators in the area.

 I haven’t done a beach dive (just boats) from Pompano but that same ledge goes along the whole SE FL coast and I have done it from Lauderdale-by-the-sea and Dania.


 If conditions are to rough for a surf entry there is always under the bridge up at Phil Foster Park during slack high tide, take a flag as some of the best critter sightings are under the mooring field.


 You probably won’t get a local buddy, Florida divers put away their gear when the water gets down to 70! When I’m down there during the winter it’s only tourist on the dive boats :)

Seriously, I am lucky if I ever get into water that is 70 other than at the surface for about the first 10 feet.

Tide, man see there is something I never thought about, what do I know about tide. Slack tide? I assume that is when it is out.

Thanks for the site and the info, I will have to look into that.

Same here in NJ, surface water temps just barely get to the low 70’s in the summer but in Florida they break out the drysuites or put the gear away when it drops to 70.

Tides don’t matter much for the beach dives other than how much beach you need to walk accross to get to the water but Blue Heron Bridge connects the mainland to Singer Island. Slack high tide is when the ocean has finished coming into the bay, that’s when the water is clearest. That will last for about :30 minuts and then the bay starts to empty out to the ocean. Vis will go down as the current picks up. You could still look for the small stuff under the mooring field but the current will become too swift under the east or west span of the bridge as the water rushes around Phil Foster Park.

Call Force-E dive shop on Blue Heron Blvd. for tides and updates, ask if the contruction on the east span is finished, if it isn’t you won’t be able to go under that end. Force-E is also the best spot there for rental gear, fills and service.
