Hello Fellow dive buddies!

I am looking to dive the San Diego Kelp Forest and am looking for dive buddy(ies) or local shop to go on June 10th (b-day), 11th, 12th. I am going with one, possibly 2 friends but they are not divers. I have NAUI and PADI (deep dive cert). Looking to possibly get night dive, wreck dive or other advance cert while out there.

Any and all comments and/or suggestions welcome!

I’m not the best person to reply to this subject, as I only dive SD area a couple times a year, but I’ll try to help. From my experience the best way to access the Pt. Loma Kelp beds are on any one of the local dive boats. It’s avery short hop from Mission Bay so it keeps the costs very affordable. Here is a link to all the California dive boats listed by city: http://californiadiveboats.com/ Some of the boats don’t have their June schedules up. But if you do one of these trips the Divemaster will easily match you up with a buddy. If a shore dive is more your speeed, try La Jolla Cove or La Jolla Shores, but please find a buddy.

If you strike out finding a buddy for a shore dive that weekend in SD, and don’t mind an hour and a half drive up North to the Laguna Beach area, I always know at least 10 people who will be diving there.

Good luck and Happy Birthday!

Thank you Rich.
Your information is VERY valuable to my trip and I will definitely use it in my research plans. About the buddy, you can be certain that I will not be going down unless there is a buddy with me. Safety First!

Thanks again,
Melvin

The first time I went to California to dive.. I had just earned my OW certification and it was going to be my first ocean experience. I hired a DM and had a personal guide. Seeing how it was my first dive in the ocean, I didn’t feel comfortable not knowing the skill level of my dive buddy. We did shore dives at Lajolla.

When I went to the California area to dive the second time... Someone told me about the group www.Divebums.com It is a group that sends out emails to a ’mass list’ that is on the club.... and people respond to the emails.

You could join that group and send an email stating you are looking for a dive buddy.

I still currently recieve the emails from them and enjoy reading the information and seeing the photos that they post.

I also have had a great experience with the dive forum Scuba board.... you could post in the Southern California area and see what kind of a response you get there too!?!?! Here is that link http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/socal/

Good luck and have fun!

If you are going to be in the area and you want to Kelp dive, head up south to Laguna beach, the kelp beds are coming back in that area. Laguna has several great dive sites. Hit me up when you get here, I will dive with you.

My wife and I going to San Diego in Sept. and want to dive. Just wondering what outfit you used and where you dove. We are then going to get on the Aggressor and do the Great White shark dive at Guadulope. Would appreciate your input. Steve and Faye
