Hey Gini.. Unfortunately, I don’t have any suggestions for you however, I wanted to see where you’ve decided to stay and if/where you found great deals on travel? Our family is looking to go on a vacation this summer and I’m looking for ideas. I think we’re leaning towards Puerto Rico. PS. I’m sure Greg will dive so after you go, please post any details/suggestions that you learn while there.
OH - I just found these! You can look through them (I am going to also) and see if you find anything helpful. Or if you’d like to, you can send a message directly with questions. I’m sure they’d love to help out!

Hi i’m Travis and hope this helps. I went to Puerto Rico in 2008 and had a great time. We stayed at the El San Juan hotel and casino,They had a great breakfast buffet, several resturants, clubs, and shopping inside the hotel along with a great pool on the beach. Look at my pictures.I would suggest non diving ideas are the ruins and just walking around taking in the amazing sites. Also go to El Yunque rain forest is awesome and the waterfall is nice. Both the historic districts of Ponce and old san juan are nice to see. As for diving i would suggest you go with Sea Adventures in Fajardo, they will take you to Sebastian and Lobos dive sites which are really nice. With wonderful aquatic life.Look at my Forum post for more info about the dive itself. i hope this helps and you will have a wonderful time. i do suggest the bioluminescent bay which we missed out on unfortunately.

Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll let you know what we end up doing.
As for the questions about good deals to/on PR, I’m sorry but I’m here on government travel, so it wasn’t an option to even shop around for deals. If I was going to look for them I’d watch Kayak.com or some similar website for good fares.
I am here in PR now (have been here for a week). This past weekend we took a ferry from Fajardo to Culebra. Stayed at Mamacita’s, which was pretty cool and dove with Taz, who was really cool. The diving itself, while not the best I’ve been on, was a lot of fun. the water was calm and warm and there was a lot of nice fans, sponges, tunicates, etc.
I’ll write more after next weekend.

I was in PR last summer and enjoyed diving Desacheo Island, 45 minutes by boat from Rincon (west end of island, mainly surfer oriented) and La Parguera in the southwest (a small non-tourist fishing village) with access to "the wall" and coral canyons. Was considering Culebra before deciding on the circle tour of PR, ending in San Juan. Hope your trip was enjoyable, cheers!

I was in Puerto Rico in January Diving and went to the south Side of the Island. We went through Island Scuba. They were a good dive shop to go out of. Plenty of Dive sites to go out to.
