Just wondering if anyone here has used the Blackbeard liveaboard cruise out of Freeport, Bahamas......my local dive shop is doing a charter with them, and I would like to read some online reports about the cruise.....could not find a real review at Trip Advisor...so, here’s looking for more ideas.......?

Sounds like a fun trip, kind of like the old Windjammer cruises, but much smaller, and with SCUBA!

Hi

I’ve been on a few trip with Blackbeard’s and am going again in Aug. The dive sites are great, they move with the weather. It is a little like ’camping’ on the open sea as the boat small.

Thanks for your input....my local diveshop/did class/pool dives with/ here in Wisconsin in January has posted a trip with 10 openings for a week that I have vacation time set aside for....!!!!! It sounds like a trip that I will not have a chance at again.....it was either Panama or scuba...and it looks like getting really wet is what is going to happen....I will see the blue Caribe up close and personal that week....anyone else have a report or retort to this thread?

I actually won a cruise on the Blackbeard at the Texas Dive show last year and went to Bimini. There’s not a lot of room in the sailboat and you’ll share an area with 4 berths and 1 bathroom. You are limited to 30 seconds on the showers per person and the food was okay. However, the dives were good and the crew were very nice and attentive. Oh, on our way back the motor on the sailboat died and we were towed in overnight by the other Blackbeard sailboat.

In any case, it’s an experience worth doing. Just make sure you don’t get the berths in the middle of the boat where the kitchen is. They start cooking at 6:00 am while you are sleeping. Report back on your trip and have fun!

Also, I get emails from them on a regular basis with specials as low as $899 for the week. Make sure you check with them for the best pricing.

Happy diving!

I would like to thank all of you that have responded to my questions....I went looking on Trip Advisor, the big vacation site, and found nothing at all about my request....but, after reading your replies here, I am happy to say, I will be going to the Hales Corners location of our local dive shop, Underwater Connection.... http://www.uwconnection.com/

I will be going there to put down my deposit on my trip for November 7, on the liveaboard out of Freeport.....and it will be a welcome respite from a fall weekend in Wisconsin.....I started diving under 2 years ago, and this will be my biggest trip.....and am confident that all will go well, I am a panicky diver, but know my limits, and understand all that is involved...I should have done this years ago as a lifeguard at the hometown YMCA indoor pool....I saw too many scuba classes to count.....but at 18, I did not have the cash to take the class....(stupid me) I turn 50 and get the urge to get wet.....! A couple of resort courses later, I do the PADI open water classes and confined dives here in January, and go to Cancun a couple of weeks later, and I am hooked!

I have to say, that all of you drysuit divers, and Icedivers...go for it! I will be there for you on the surface, but give me the Blue, warm, Caribe and lets get wet! Lake Michigan will never see my mask!

Thanks again for your replies.....Rodney
