I completed my Dive Master course in April and my IDC/IE this June, I spent a lot of time diving at Dutch Springs PA training facility. The water temperature at depth was often in the lower 40’s and at surface a relatively balmy upper 50’s. I dive wet. ok, 7mm fullsuit with 5 mm core warmer and 5 mm hooded vest, plus wool socks under my booties. It is cold, and so you dont want to spend a lot of time at depth under 60’. I also realize that as an instructor, most of my students will be in wet suits, so I think that I should be as well. Exposed areas of the face go numb fairly quickly, but wont freeze. Just a question of whether your wetsuit is snug enough to limit the circulation of water around your torso. I just do it.
