You should test it on land first.
I use my old SS50’s with a digital adapter and my old nikonos cable to the strobe set in TTL mode. I shoot the camera in manual mode anyways and set the config of the digital adapter to know there will be NO preflash from my camera’s internal strobe.
Some the housing makers also have their own strobe adapters to let you reuse your old strobes that does not handle preflash in the auto, program, shutter/apert modes.
