Im in LA for business, and suddenly found myself some free time this
weekend, so I’m looking to dive - santa catalina island or any LA dive sites.
Can someone point me to dive shops/centers that routinely schedule
local dive trips? I was able to check out ecodivecenter.com but it is full this
weekend. Any suggestions is highly appreciated.

Sorry you posted this so late and I only saw this post now. There are many dive boats in LA going to the Islands. Based on your location you can go to www.californiadiveboats.com and find links to each individual boat and call around. Sport Chalet (local sporting goods chain) has boats every weekend. You can call them direct to find out if they have openings. The boat option is the best way if you don’t have a buddy with you, as the DM on the boat will do their best to match you up with someone. If you do have a buddy you might take the Catalina Express shuttle over to Avalon, Catalina and walk over to Casino Point Dive Park. There will be hundreds of divers there each day. The overall cost is the same as a dive boat. As for a local shore dive you are in luck this weekend as conditions are expected to be stellar. My wife and I are doing a local shore dive tomorrow at 2pm, but we are taking our underwater scooters so we wouldn’t be good buddies for you. Someone else may show up but I can’t guarantee. If you still need help tomorrow call my cell phone and I’ll try to help you out based on your location.
