Old Ponquogue Bridge, North side - NY

Loading...
Old Ponquogue Bridge, North side is a shore accessible salt water dive site, located in NY. This dive site has an average rating of 4.00 out of 5 from 1 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 21-25ft/6-8m. The average visibility is 26-30ft/8-9m.

You can park at the north side of the bridge for free, the south side you need to pay a fee. This dive needs to be timed so that you make it at slack tide only due to the strong current. High slack tide will give you the best visibility. There are crabs, lobster and lots of other marine life. Later in the summer I have even found tropical fish there brought up by the gulf stream.

I went scuba diving here on 10/1/2013. Average viz: 5-10ft/2-3m. Water temp: 61-65°F/16-18°C.
Semi night dive. Went in at twilight, came out in darkness. Saw tropicals, lots of mating horseshoe crabs, found a lure, gave it to guy in parking lot for some good karma. Trouble equalizing, I had a cold. Took a loooong time to be able to descend. I knew I had a cold, but I just thought my scratchy throat was the issue.....until I tried to equalize. Wasted a lot of air trying to get down.

Great dive, lots of fish. Some tropicals. School of short striped bass swam around us. Really cool! Got some video. Lots of horseshoe crabs mating. Tons of baby muscles.
