Lake Travis - Devil’s Cove is a boat accessible fresh water dive site, located in Austin, TX. This dive site has an average rating of 3.30 out of 5 from 10 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 51-60ft/16-18m. The average visibility is under 5ft/2m.

This place is located on Lake Travis and is known for wild and crazy parties. Since there is a lot of alcohol involved, things tend to be dropped to be dropped into the water. Also, drunk boat captain tend to get frustrated with snagged anchors, they tend to cut them loose and leave them there.

Lots of good stuff to find if you can see. Because of the boat volume, the visibility is almost non-existent. Searching the bottom is pretty much done by touch and feel.

JonG - 6/09/2021 2:30 AM I went scuba diving here on 5/30/2021. Average viz: 5-10ft/2-3m. Water temp: 71-75°F/22-24°C. Visibility is usually 1ft to 10ft. Because of all the party-boats, you have to be careful. There’s a LOT of trash, but also sometimes treasure. That said, most of the treasure is difficult to find, because it’s in the middle (~70ft), covered in a DEEP layer of silt, with visibility about 2ft, and since it’s been there a while, most of it is destroyed by zebra-mussels and corrosion. Just beware you’ll probably have to dive this site solo due to visibility. I like the dive-site because it’s a challenge finding (destroyed) treasure in almost zero-visibility. Is that a pair of sunglasses, or just another stick? Can this pair of sunglasses covered in 200 zebra mussels be salvaged? Oh look, a tree with 10 anchors stuck to it! You’ll probably need a boat to access this dive-site. Unless someone knows of a nearby public shore-entrance (if you do, please let me know).

There is a yearly lake cleanup and thanks to the LCRA, local dive clubs, boat rentals we get to go scuba diving and help keep Austin Clean. As long as you are diving in a small group, don’t kick your fins much, and don’t touch anything roughly you’ll be ok and the viz will stay at about 5 feet. But if you do any of these things...good luck with seeing your hand in front of your mask. I went on a clean-up of the area and as long as I moved very slowly and recovered the items I found very carefully - the dive was not bad. Lots of treasures to be found, sporadic fish and lots of fun :-) If the viz was better it wouldn’t be bad....
