MV Shakem is a boat accessible salt water dive site, located in Grenada. This dive site has an average rating of 5.00 out of 5 from 2 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 101-110ft/31-34m. The average visibility is 41-50ft/12-15m.

Site: Shakem

Location: Off Grande Anse, St Georges

Description: Medium cargo ship

Length:50 meters

Depth: 32 meters

Visibility: 10-15 metres

Shakem is a recent casualty, sinking in 2001 and has the possibility of plenty of penetration. The ships cargo was concrete, which can still be seen in the holds. It sank when the cargo shifted as a result of being overloaded, whilst in sight of the harbour.

The ship lies upright, both anchors are down with the anchor chains still connected and there is a crane midships. If you drop onto the stern it is possible to work your way through the cabin decks and down into the lower rooms.

On the second deck there is a generator room at the rear, but it is dark down here so a torch is essential. The entrance to the engine room is on the starboard, holding a large engine and some tool kits. Despite it sinking recently, there is already a lot of life established on it including large fan corals, French Angel Fish, Sergeant Majors, and usually a few Barracuda looking for a meal.

This is a nice wreck about 100’ down. This ship sank one mile before arriving in Grenada. It was loaded with cement, and is still loaded with cement. There are also diapers on board.
