A privately owned quarry near Murfreesboro, TN. About 10 acres with no facilities on site but reasonably good visibility.

The quarry became purple with algae which made the bottom black. Very eerie with oozing claylike silt. Weather was rainy at 45F with water temps as 59F at surface and 56F at the bottom. The quarry itself was nice and secluded. The submerged items were in process of being surveyed by a local DM where some had tiny floats attached. There were cars, boats, platforms, a city bus, tires, an airplane and a van with a small skeleton suspended.

RockRat, thank you for the invite. We’re gonna hit penny royal this Sunday. I’ll message you next time.

Is it the same guy who owns Jeffs Resturant?
RockRat2008 - 6/23/2015 12:52 PM
He doesn’t own a restaurant and if you don’t know him personally I would recommend first getting an escort to the quarry as the quarry is private property under lock and key. I’ll see what my schedule looks like this weekend and I may be able to dive Sunday. What time were you thinking of going out?

Bogdahn6 - 6/23/2015 12:34 PM
does anyone know how to obtain permission to Dive out here I’m planning on coming out with my son this Sunday.
RockRat2008 - 6/23/2015 12:39 PM
If you have never been there before you will either have to go with someone who dives there or see if you can get a key from Jeff.

I went scuba diving here on 8/27/2013. Average viz: 5-10ft/2-3m. Water temp: 50-55°F/10-13°C.
Saw 2 catfish on this night dive; The first was 2.5-3 feet long and the other was 5’ long and feeding on the back quarry wall. We hovered and watched him for probably 90 seconds before he decided to move on and we did as well.

Lots of good stuff to look at on the bottom. Visibility was not that great, but with all the rain storms that have come through lately its to be expected. I plan on diving this site a lot!

vanmn48 - 10/06/2012 9:48 PM
hey rockrat do you have to get permission or pay some one to go here
RockRat2008 - 10/08/2012 5:23 AM
There is no fee to dive and you do have to get permission as the quarry is behind a locked gate.
RockRat2008 - 10/08/2012 5:24 AM
If I’m available when you want to dive I’ll be happy to take you out there.

I’ve dove here multiple times. There is plenty to see and explore with decent visibility. Excellent place to allow newer divers to get comfortable without being overwhelming while still being large enough for more experienced divers to enjoy the experience.
