Rattlesnake Rock - Blackwell PA

Loading...
Rattlesnake Rock is a shore accessible fresh water dive site, located in Blackwell, PA 16938. This dive site has an average rating of 3.00 out of 5 from 1 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 16-20ft/5-6m. The average visibility is 5-10ft/2-3m.

Popular fishing spot on the Pine Creek. At dead of summer max depth can go down to about 12-15’. Overhead undercut on main rock with some current, be wary and safe. Can dive under the cut and go fairly far underneath, but I don’t recommend it due to current. If you are going to explore this portion be smart, setup safety. Above the rock in the current from the rifles see decent depth and lots of fish tends to be smaller rocks. Around the bend again, lots of big boulders with fish hiding everywhere. Seen mud puppies, walleye, rock bass, trout, carp and more. Very active fish life here. Fun spot.

I went scuba diving here on 7/12/2014. Average viz: 5-10ft/2-3m. Water temp: 71-75°F/22-24°C.
Saw a 30"+ walleye, lots of carp and bass. Found prescription glasses, fishing lures and change. Lots to see. Swam into current and looked under the cut with light, appears to go deep so I stayed far away. Heard rumors it can go back in 20’, not sure as light didn’t penetrate to end of it. I’ve seen otters swim under near the rock crack and that does go back in 20’ish so it’s certainly possible. Clarity is decent, depth is easy to maintain 10 so except when rounding the "island rock". Lots of current on upstream side of rock, but also lots of fish life.
