Tyler State Park - Tyler TX

Loading...
Tyler State Park is a shore accessible fresh water dive site, located at 789 Park Road 16, Tyler, TX 75706. This dive site has an average rating of 3.12 out of 5 from 8 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 21-25ft/6-8m. The average visibility is 11-15ft/3-5m. Training platforms are available.

It’s not a bad place to dive. There are fish and turtles to check out. Only two platforms and no other underwater attractions. You don’t want to go on a busy weekend due to the swimming hole kills the visibility even if you are on the other side of the lake. During the summer, skin or a 3mil shorty is fine but the thermocline is right around 17 feet. It will go from 91 degree surface to an easy 75 degrees. The lake is around 25 feet max depth, some say 30 feet but I think that might be after a good rain, I’ve seen the lake get at least 5 feet over the banks.

The dive platforms are not marked on the surface. If you dive from the south dock, to the east of the dock, there is a dead tree with a line attached, follow it and you will find the first platform. The other one is somewhere but we could not find it due to the 5 foot viz on that day.

Tyler State Park is highly noted for the mountain bike trails. It is a great place to spend the weekend. Bathroom facilities have showers and are kept clean daily. There is a few local dive shops that you can get air fills but they are downtown, not on site, downtown is about 15 minutes away. The local dive shops also do their lake training here too. Check out the website and video. FYI, dogs are not allowed on the beach areas, we took ours to the other side of the lake.

I went scuba diving here on 6/8/2014. Average viz: 11-15ft/3-5m. Water temp: 76-80°F/24-27°C.
We were working on a Rescue Diver Class for these two individuals and they did a fantastic job!
