The Lake Norman Quarry is for members and their guests. A key is required for entry into the fenced / gated property. There is diving 24 hours a day 365 days a year with a key. The PDRA (Piedmont Diving Rescue Association) is the largest dive club in NC and owns this quarry as well as two others in the NC.

The cost of membership to dive any of the 3 quarries is currently $100.00 a year + a one time 20.00 new member fee. Family plans are available. Each additional diving family member is 20.00/year while non-divers are no charge. This is for unlimited access! We know of no where else you can dive so cheap!

At the Lake Norman Quarry there are several boats, a plane a car, and many other attractions to dive in this large spring fed quarry. There are multiple platforms at all depths (up 98 feet) for training or just honing your skills.

The visibility tends to be better in the winter as the fresh water feeds from the spring. Typical visibility tends to be 15-25 feet. There are thermoclines at different depths, depending on season. The average bottom temp in the summer is about 65 degrees. It is always a wetsuit or drysuit dive :)

Every year there is a Treasure Hunt for members and several other events throughout the year. It is just a great place for training or just a fun dive!

I went scuba diving here on 10/1/2017. Average viz: 5-10ft/2-3m. Water temp: 71-75°F/22-24°C.
Visibility was about 10 feet in the cove where the movie car and bass boat are located, but about 1-2 feet in the playground/training area where classes had the silt stirred up something awful. Water temps were in the low 70s down to about 32 feet. Registered 61° at 61 feet. All-in-all, we had a couple of pretty good dives today.

Thermocline at 25 ft. Drops from low 70s to low 60s real quick. Otherwise, nice diving day.

For quarry diving it’s good. A little colder than I’d like, but it’s pretty great for what it is. Lots to see and there are usually friendly people around.

Hello, I’m going to be down there this weekend visiting my brother and would like to dive this lake. How far away is this from Huntersville? I have a 3/2 suit and was going to rent 2-80’s for 2 dives. Any help would be appreciated.

Couldn’t ask for a better place for training and logging dives. It’s set up for divers only. Places to camp and cook out. Many sunken items to find. Vis can be kind of low at times, but a great place all in all.

Great place to dive and work on your skills. There is a bunch of groups that dive here through the week, throughout the year.

I just completed my PADI OW exams there, and besides the facility being fantastic, the people are awesome too. I’m a proud new keyholder, and am blessed to have such a great place to now hone my skills in a safe inland location.
