Daghestan Wreck aka Steamship, Evergreen & BD17 - Sandy Hook NJ

Loading...
Daghestan Wreck aka Steamship, Evergreen & BD17 is a boat accessible salt water dive site, located in Sandy Hook, NJ. The maximum depth is 61-70ft/19-21m.

The wreck consists of a very large field of jumbled low-lying debris, hardly anything more than 3-4 ft tall. Even the boiler seems to have been destroyed, and I never found an engine; perhaps it was salvaged. The bottom here is not as silty as most places in this vicinity, but the current can be very strong, so this wreck must be dived with the tide.
No one, to the best of my knowledge, has been able to positively identify her. Bill Reddan, a local charter captain, refers to this wreck as Martins Misery; the wreck is known to others as the Eastern Steamship. Frank Litter has researched some of the artifacts recovered from the site. According to his research this could be the wreck of the Daghestan.
