Caves - Cyprus

Loading...
Caves is a shore accessible salt water dive site, located in Cape Greko, Cyprus. This dive site has an average rating of 4.50 out of 5 from 2 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 41-50ft/12-15m. The average visibility is 91-100ft/28-30m.

Most probable the most spectacular dive site in the area of Protaras with some nice cavern systems. Average depth is 9 Metres and maximum depth 16 Metres. Since late last year the way down has been worked over and one can very easy approach the entry point there. Right under the entry area is already a medium size cavern and it has two big holes in the ceiling which can be used as an exit. It looks great when the sun is shining through these two holes. The dive starts in the southerly direction along a wall and after about 100 Metres the rocky formation transforms into a sandy pool. Diving approximately 50 Metres over this sandy bottom brings you to one of the cavern systems on the left side. Please keep your consoles/gauges close to your body as it gets rather narrow through this cavern. On the exit of this cavern we turn right towards the shoreline again which brings us into a pool like area where we are turning 90 degrees to the right to dive through a large overhang which ends again in a cavern. On the ceiling in there you can see often Triton Shells on the rocks. After this overhang we are diving to the actual cavern which gives space for 3 divers beside each other. The bottom consists of bebbles so visibility is nearly always very good in this cavern. The entrance is about 1.5 Metres in diametre and opens up inwards. After about 6 Metres there is big hole in the ceiling which grants you direct access to the surface. Continuing through the last two thirds of this cavern the ceiling becomes a bit lower but there is still enough space for 2 or 3 divers beside each other. Looking towards the end of this cavern you will see the exit in the shape of the Island of Cyprus which looks really cool. Watch out for Mermeids Veil Corals on the ceiling of the cavern. On the exit we are turning to the right into a little canyon with rocks left and right and with many little holes and crevices which offer a lot of different marine life. Diving around the rocky plateau we are coming to the sandy area in about 16 Metres of depth. Here watch out please, there are often sting rays out in the sand. This dive site offers everything a diver is looking for. Again Spanish Lobsters, Moary Eels, Sea Slugs, Octopus, and Sting Rays can be observed nearly on every dive.
