Philippines Dive Trip Philippines Dive Trip
MonkeyDiver - 4/27/2010 12:49 AM
Eight of us took off for a dive trip to the Philippines on Thursday night, April 15th, from LAX. We were scheduled to go nonstop to Manila, but had to stop for refueling at Guam. We changed planes in Manila, and arrived at Dumaguete on the Island of Negros early Saturday morning. Don’t forget we lost a day flying west. It was a short van ride south to the Pura Vida Resort, www.pura-vida.ph, in the town of Dauin where we were greeted with open arms, and after completing a bit of paperwork we proc...

Belize Dive trip Belize Dive trip
MonkeyDiver - 10/19/2008 12:02 PM
Hi Folks, Just got back from a week in the town of San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize. I wish I could say the trip was great, but it certainly wasn’t. Bad weather, bad ocean conditions, closed for the season restaurants, and as previously reported, my camera housing got flooded before the first dive. I will repeat the incident for those of you that may use this information to prevent a similar occurrence. My Olympus C-7070 camera was completely checked the night before, and I placed it in the cam...
Bonaire Dive Trip Bonaire Dive Trip
MonkeyDiver - 4/20/2008 5:12 PM
Hi People, I just got back yesterday from a dive trip to Bonaire with folks from South Coast Divers, and it was great. A good group to travel and dive with, and great diving. I wanted to send out some dive reports from there, but I couldn’t get Internet access so I will try to summarize everything here. The trip down was a bit cramped with a fully loaded plane, but the trip back had empty seats and plenty of room. The accommodations at Buddy Dive Resort were pretty good, although my roommate had...
Baja whale shark trip report Baja whale shark trip report
MonkeyDiver - 10/09/2007 10:49 PM
Hi divers, Myself and six other Orange County folks in two vehicles departed for the Bahia de los Angeles (Bay of Los Angeles) in Baja, Mexico, on September 29th with the goal of observing and diving with whale sharks. It took us about thirteen hours for the one day drive, but about two of those hours can be attributed to fish taco stands along the way. We arrived at our destination in late afternoon, and were blessed with a spectacular view of the bay while descending the mountains. The trip do...

MonkeyDiver - 9/11/2007 2:15 PM
Hi Folks, Went out on a three day dive trip aboard the Conception out of Santa Barbara with my wife, Marti, and 22 other divers. Most of the divers signed up through Laguna Sea Sports, and some were from another shop, but this left the boat at about half capacity which was really nice. We boarded on Wednesday night and left port at 4:00 AM Thursday morning. When we smelled coffee Thursday morning we were at San Miguel Island. I was just getting over a cold and couldn`t clear my ears on the first...
Roatan Dive Trip Roatan Dive Trip
MonkeyDiver - 8/23/2007 8:00 PM
Hi folks, I`ve finally reduced my mail stack and reviewed my gazillion e-mails to the point of putting out a trip/dive report for the recent SOCDC trip to Roatan, Honduras. This will be a summation of the trip, however, and if anyone wants specific details talk to me off line. We departed from LAX the morning of 8/4/07, changed planes in Huston, and arrived in Roatan that afternoon in a pouring rain. We checked in, looked around a bit, ate dinner, and hit the sack to get set for the next day`s d...

MonkeyDiver - 6/04/2007 12:00 AM
Hi Folks, I`m involved in planning a driving trip down to the Bay of Los Angeles (BOLA) in Baja, Mexico in late September to have encounters with the whalesharks that are there during that period. We will be leaving from Orange County, CA, and the trip should be about a week. We hope to have several vehicles to caravan down and back, but the details still haven`t been determined. Right now we are just trying to evaluate interest. Let me know if you are interested, and I`ll place you on the plann...
Trip to Devils Den in Florida Trip to Devils Den in Florida
MonkeyDiver - 5/13/2007 12:00 AM
I just returned from a dive trip in Florida where I was hosted by three wonderful new friends from Devil`s Den in Williston, Tami, Paul, and especially their four year old son Jody that absolutely stole my heart. Adverse ocean conditions prevented any ocean diving, but I was able to drift dive the Rainbow River, dive with manatees, explore the beautiful clear caverns of Devil`s Den, and hang with Jody who really tired out this old guy out. I forgot how much energy a four year old had. Anyway, I ...
