SingleDivers trip - Halloween in Cozumel. This trip for me started on Thursday October 30th. THe first step was that when I arrived at the Denver airport my flight was cancelled. So they booked me on a direct flight to Cancun. The good new was no layover. The bad news was doing the transfer. I made it down to Playa Del Carmen only to find out that the ferry was now on a 2 hour schedule rather than the normal off season 1 trip an hour. So my hopes of making it to the hotel prior to the dive shop closing were dashed. When I arrived at Casa Del Mar that evening, most of the group was already there. So I joined them for dinner. Their all inclusive is a bit different in that rather than being a buffet you order from their menu. While limited over an entire week, the food is generally very good, from the cerviche, to the fish fillet youcatan style, the meals gave you more than enough food. So Friday brought the first day of diving. We were diving with Del Mar Aquatics. We were on their big boat, Big Splash, with their two senior divemasters, Renee’ and Mario. Not bad for a group of 11 divers. Our days generally had a two tank dive in the morning, a one tank dive in the afternoon and a night dive on Saturday night. Our dive sites were Day 1 Columbia Deep La Franchessa Santa Rosa Wall Day 2 Palancar Bricks Cedral Wall Yucab Reef Paradise Reef (night dive) Day 3 Santa Rosa Wall Paradise Reef again so we could get better pix of the Seahorses (yes there were 4!) On Friday night they had a Halloween party with a Pirate themed Costume Contest. Diver Den did his best Johnny Depp impersonation and won an free trip back to Casa Del Mar, including diving. I was lucky to finish 2nd and win a free massage. It was their first halloween party and deemed a success. They plan to do another one next year. Saturday night was the night dive, which it was a heavy shower when we got out of the water. So I had a short night. But those that did go out to Senor Frogs went dancing with Marciel aka Dancer Dog who showed them all a move or 2. When we got back from the dives I had my massage in the palapa just off the water next door to the dive shop. I was wondering when she asked me to unbotton my pants but she was very professional and did a great job (it was all business, no happy endings for those who were thinking otherwise). Sunday night was mexican night with a mariachi band and awesome fajitas off the grill. They were nice enough to play happy birthday for me which was greatly appreciated. Monday it was time to leave. When I arrived the doorman met me with a huge welcome home. And after three SingleDivers trips to this resort, it is definitely getting that feeling. Sandra and her staff have been excellent in taking care of us. I hope I am able to make the trip again next year.
