I was a late bloomer, got certified just before my 49th birthday. Always wanted to do it. Friends and family are not into diving. Finally, I just said WTF, and took lessons on my own.

While I have been certified for several years, I still consider myself a novice. Just got my own gear and am looking to get out more. So far I have been to Key West, Cozumel, Punta Cana, Panama City Beach FL and Bonaire.

Hi John, Late bloomer here as well but so far i’m loving it. I just got most of my own gear as well. My dive shop keeps asking where I want to go on my first trip and I told them I cant afford the trip now that I have gear. LOL!

I had the same problem, went several years renting equipment. Finally got it all piece by piece.
