My first dive was in Hawaii over 20 years ago and loved it but I was too busy with school and life and did not dive again until I certified 1 year ago in Monterey, CA with SSI. Since then I have about 32 dives, all except 3 (Turks and Caicos islands) in cold water including Point Lobos, Catalina and Monterey. I also have my advanced open water cert with SSI. I’m basically landlocked here in central CA, but it’s only a 3 hour drive to many sites on the coast (including Monterey).
